Sheet Masks -- Overview & Brands (Missha, My Beauty Diary, Dermal)

WARNING:  This is going to be a marathon of a post.

It's no surprised that I am a big fan of masks.  I've previously written in regards to ones where you apply it to the face/chin/neck and then wash it off:
My review of Lush Fresh Face Mask in Love Lettuce

But if you cannot be bothered to have to splash around in your sink for a good 5-10 min removal process, sheet masks are the way to go.  When I don't feel like my skin needs the suped up pampering, I look towards sheet masks -- they are my lazy, in between hardcore pampering solution.

REVIEW: Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask

I am obsessed with masks.
I am also obsessed with Anna from ViviannaDoesMakeup.

Anna loves this mask, so, duh, I had to get it.

I am so glad I got this in September 2012, before Fall and Winter hit.

M's China & Taiwan Beauty Haul

Hello Strangers!

It's been a while since the last post.  I went on holidays to China and Taiwan for a month, and R is a lazyfuck.

I wanted to share (cough showoff cough) my beauty haul from the trip (cue photos galore):

Please note that the currency in China is RMB (1 CAD = 7 RMB), and the currency in Taiwan is NT (1 CAD = 28 NT).  In other words, I bought a lot of shit.

from duty free
I will be doing a full post on this later
it's supposed to whiten your pits lol
this was 29 RMB for 2!
I gave one to R
floral AND fruity scent!
this was 109 NT for 2! (I gave two to R)
I bought a box to try since they were only 100 NT!
velcro sheets to keep your hair up without creasing it
20 NT for a pack (2 sheets in a pack)
my beloved lip ice
(see R's post here)
they come in a pack of 4
80 NT for two packs
These are my favourite makeup wipes (see my post here)
stole the two cherry blossom scented ones from my mom's duty free 6-piece assorted hand cream pack
the 6-piece pack contained 2 cherry blossoms, 2 dry hands, 2 lavender - a complete steal at 269 RMB (~$6 CAD each!)
I was completely out so bought one from duty free for 180 RMB ($25 CAD!)
they're normally $40 at the North American counters... wtf
MSF in Soft and Gentle from duty free
I have no idea how much it was... Mom got it for me
$24 CAD from duty free
Normally $27 CAD at Canadian counters
(see my review here - clearly, I lied about not running to buy it. it saved my skin in China and now I'm hooked lol)
I bought a shitload of these grapefruit scented oil blotting films
I think they were 20 RMB each
My Beauty Diary face sheet masks (each box has 10 individually packaged masks)
389 NT for 2 boxes, which is ~$7 CAD per box
they normally retail for $15 CAD per box here!
I will probably do a full post of these later
I stocked up on Asian pads!
they fit me a lot better, so I always stock up whenever I go (they're also a lot cheaper at 14 RMB per pack of 16 pads)
I spend about 1000 RMB on just pads every time I go to China and it lasts me about 2.5 years
(imagine me strolling around Carrefour like no big deal, with a shopping cart filled with bright pink pads lol)

Origins Clear Improvement Mask

It's no surprise that I'm obsessive of UK beauty bloggers and youtube gurus... at the top of my favourites are Anna from ViviannaDoesMakeup and Lily from WhatIHeartToday.  Aside from their never-ending shopping  carts, I also love their affection to face masks.

Both have raved on and on about the Origins Clear Improvement Mask, so when Origins.com had their "pick any three deluxe samples" promotion earlier this month, I jumped right onto the bandwagon.  Screw you, Sephora.
See Anna's review:  here!
See Lily's review:  here!

I got a 7 mL sample:

It may seem like very little, but you barely make a dent in the tube for a single use.  I'm still trying to use it up!

Smell:
A bit like herbally plastic? lol...

Texture:
Like a gel.

Colour:
Super black.

Application:
This is supposed to be a clarifying mask to clear pores, so I only apply this to my T-zone (forehead, nose and cheek area around nose, chin).
I had to individually apply to each area because the mask dries super fast!  It goes from very wet gel to a semi-matte mask.  The mask dries and hardens, and what's super cool and gross is that you can see your larger pores through the dried mask.

Removal:
Even though it dries hard, there's no tugging or scrubbing; slides right off with warm water.

Verdict:
I like that it's gentle enough that it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin.
I like that I can tell it had cleaned my pores and leaves my skin feeling super clean.
I don't like that it kinda dries out my skin right after washing it off.
I like it but I won't be running with $30 CAD to get a new one when this sample runs out.
Edit December 14, 2012:
Clearly, I was wrong... the deal-seeker in me had to buy it at the duty free shop when I saw it priced at $24 CAD (see my post here).  Thankfully I did, because it saved my skin when I was in China.

LUSH - Love Lettuce Fresh Face Mask

HOLY MOSES JOSES, a face mask that doesn't break the shit out of my face and make me look like an overly blushed Klingon!  To my hyper-sensitive oily/combination cyclic-acne-prone and something more sisters out there, we have hope.
BAM.
 BAM.
yea, that's my clawprint in there.
Ok, so I had long given up on face masks and decided to just suck it up with my Olay Exfoliating brush, until fellow Canadian nutjob, Estée, wouldn't shut up about her Lush face masks and how it's been amazeballs for her... thank goodness.
I picked this up when I went on a platonic date/hoarding shopping trip with R the other day.  Laid my deets (details, for you non-cool joes) on the sales associate (the ones at Lush are weird but super helpful--watch and learn, Sephora).  She recommended either this one or the oatmeal looking one... I've got a weak stomach for oatmeal, so I picked this one.  I think I paid $6 CAD for a small black tub of it.  My local store makes it fresh every Wednesday (you can't buy this online because it's made fresh), and each tub will give about 3-4 masks... even with my big face, I think I can probably generously get 4.

I scoop up a Timbit sized amount and generously smear it all over my face.  There's small bits of green plant looking material--I just spread it around.  It says to leave it on for something like 5 mins?  Iuno, I'm probably making shit up.  Anyway, it says not to let it dry out but I leave it on until it does, cuz I'm a rebel.  Then I just use my hands to wash it off very gently with warm water.  Afterwards, I use my Sephora precison pore cleanser pad to make sure all of it is gone.

Verdict:  THIS FUCKING ROCKS THE SHIT OUT OF MY FACE AND MORE.  I'm kinda outraged by how it made my face so hydrated and oil-balanced.  I think I texted R right away with something like:  "my face is fucking glowing."
